About Yayasan Chow Kit

Who Are We

YCK started out as an expansion of a government-run day-care centre. In 2006 it grew into a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre, providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children in and around Chow Kit. In 2010 we expanded again and we now have an additional two centres providing quality care and services to children ranging from babies to young adults.

Our early experience of working at the grassroots level led to the discovery of an array of multi-faceted socio-cultural issues affecting the diverse groups of people living in Chow Kit. This realisation paved the way for the establishment of a non-government organisation based within the area and committed to providing structured and sustainable community-based programmes.

Originally called Rumah NurSalam, as a project under Yayasan Salam, in January 2011 Yayasan Chow Kit was established as an entity in its own right. The foundation’s vision ‘to improve the lives of at-risk children and youth’ aptly sums up our aspirations for the community we serve in Chow Kit.
