INTRODUCING THE JOHOR MENU AT OPENHOUSE
February 29th, 2020 - OpenHouse is proud to introduce its newest and finest southern cuisine to their menu after months of researching and tasting.
At the southern flank of the peninsula, the royal state of Johor has a long and colorful history. With its roots dating back to the Malacca Sultanate in the early 1600s, it was also an empire that stretched from the Riau archipelago to southwest Borneo and Sumatra.
The cuisine of Johor is heavily influenced by the Javanese, Bugis, Arab, Chinese and even the Italians! As the story goes, Laksa Johor came about as Sultan Abu Bakar, the first Malay ruler to visit Europe in 1866 instructed his chefs to use spaghetti instead of traditional rice noodles for his laksa. The Laksa Johor is on our menu too.
PARTNERSHIP WITH YAYASAN CHOW KIT
From 1-31 March, profits from the sale of Johor Menu dishes will be donated to Yayasan Chow Kit. YCK have teamed up with OpenHouse to raise fund and awareness for their cause. YCK is a non-profit organization that provides round- the-clock assistance and a drop-in center providing meals, activities, therapy, educational programs and case management for children at risk.
Come and dine on good food while giving to a good cause.
