When MCO happened, we were all in a panic- wondering how are our children and families going to manage since we serve the B40 community. At that point, we haven't even thought out any plans of fundraising what more to provide essentials to cover the needs of families that we know will soon struggle. I was asking around for help when our founder shared the contact of Mr Thomas and the information on #MakanKongsi. I quickly contacted Mr Thomas on the application process and he was very kind to guide me through it and also sent me all the simple forms to apply for the funds. Despite the MCO had just happened, there were already such wonderful groups who started initiative to help the underprivileged!
I applied for the funds and received cash for the families. Thankfully to a very simple process, we managed to give out the cash on hand to affected families. One case that stood out is a 13 year old boy who lives with his aged grandmother. Although his grandmother is aged 80, she still goes about her work to earn a daily wedge at a nearby market or helps out with cleaning services. Unfortunately due to the movement restriction order, she is unable to go out and given her age factor, she is highly at risk for infection. We gave her the cash on hand which she used to buy basic food items for her and her grandson. She has been ever so grateful for the help received.
We, on behalf of the organization and children as well as families would like thank #MakanKongsi team, its partners and donors for the well thought and simple strategy to reach out to families in need! We truly hope more kind and generous Malaysians will donate to support this initiative as the impact it has on the communities are truly great! Thank you for filling the stomach of many underprivileged families in Malaysia!
